TV Turn-off week is April 30 - May 6th and the GPL has suggestions to keep you busy while your tube is turned off.  Enter to win a prize gift basket full of fun activities that you can do during TTOW.  Winner to be drawn on April 27th.

Dr. Gallagher will be at the library right after school to meet with the kids and answer pet care questions.  He will bring in his own dog, and the children will be able to use a stethoscope to listen to its heart and learn about pet care.

In celebration of National Pet Week which is May 6th - 12th, the GPL will once again be collecting donations for the Oconto Area Humane Society.  Drop off your donations anytime during the month of May.  All who make a donation to the OAHS during the month of May will be entered into a prize drawing...2 baskets will be given away which are full of everything and anything about pets and pet care.

Warren has been working full time for the Green Bay Press Gazette since 1967, and he writes about theater, the arts, media, architecture, creative people, and more. His column is called "Critic at Large".

"My Father Lives in the Drawer" is a collection of non-newspaper stories, mixed in with far-out or demanding puns and jokes. Most of the stories are factual, but some are tongue-in-cheek fiction.

"Tales of a Newspaperman: Ice Bowl and Lombardi Through Time" is a collection of stories about colorful people that Warren has met and wrote about, plus more puns and jokes.

Our May Family Fun Day is all about DREAMING BIG (which is the theme of our Summer Reading Program this year). Everyone who wears pajamas on this day will receive something special from the GPL. Lots of fun activities including an introduction to the excitement ahead at this year's SRP!

We'll also be launching our STORYWALK project...all the kids will help us get the pages set along Main Street and will be the first ones to Walk the Walk! Join us this Saturday.

Wisconsin author Mike Perry and his band the Longbeds will be appearing at this year's Oconto County Fair thanks to the cooperation of all 6 Oconto County Public Libraries (located in Gillett, Lakewood, Lena, Oconto, Oconto Falls, and Suring).

All of us are excited to bring him here, and we're in the process of planning countywide reading events et. al. in celebration of Mike's appearance here in Oconto County.
